TeachNutrition.ca is a multi-faceted website. It has links to web-based activities, recipes, nutrition facts, ideas on how to talk about body image and healthy eating, and more. The site has programs and resources for all ages. The first question the site asks is where in Canada you are from- it then will us the information that is accepted in that province's curriculum. I like this site due to its many resources and information available; I specifically like the menu planner and access to informative games. Registered dieticians and health professionals compose the team that created the website which gives it some credibility. However, as you can see at the bottom right corner of the advertisement for this website (pictured to the right), the site is created by the "Dairy Farmers of Canada". It is important to think critically about the effect this likely has on the information that is provided.
Nutrition can be a very complex subject to teach and can not be learned in minutes, hours, or even days. It requires a person to continuously learn throughout their life about their body and what nutrients it requires to stay strong and healthy. Because of this, as educators, the best thing we can do for our students is to engage them and to help them forge an interest in learning about nutrition. This website can help teachers make learning fun for students.
